ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A new state-of-the-art Daystar Resource Center for homeless and low-income families will open in St. Petersburg in July. The new building is located at 1055 28th Street S. It is almost three times larger than the current Daystar Life Center and will be able to accommodate hundreds of clients a day. The bright yellow building was designed by Place Architecture, the same firm that helped create Tampa’s Armature Works. It has a 20-foot ceiling and two walls of windows. “We wanted a bright open place,” says architect Tim Clemmons. “However you get here, you’re welcome.” Amenities include: A garden that will grow “farm-to-food bank” produce including kale, eggplant and watermelon. Chickens and fresh eggs are coming soon! A large learning kitchen for cooking classes A children’s play room, a computer resource center, and 10 interview rooms to help clients get ID cards, bus passes and gas vouchers A food bank designed as a grocery star A clothing room Volunteers and donations are needed.
